My full name, in case you need it for a flyer or just happen to be curious, is Junius Flagg Brown V.
- “Junius” is pronounced “JOO-nee-us,” and rhymes with Julius. If you happen to know IPA, that’s /ˈdʒuniəs/.
- “Flagg” is a middle name. It’s pronounced just like “Flag,” and the double g is not a typo. I don’t use my full middle name very often, but here it is, in case you were curious.
- “Brown” is just like the color.
- “V” is a Roman numeral (“the Fifth”).
My Chinese name is 班钧毅 (Bān Jūnyì), which appears on the calligraphy seal icon at the bottom of this page and throughout this site. I don’t normally go by 布朗同志 but that one has kind of stuck by this point.
If you run into me at a conference, just call me Junius! And if you need an icebreaker, feel free to ask about any of this.

The Hall of Infamy
While it may not seem like it, “Junius” is apparently a difficult name! In the section below, I’ve compiled all the different ways that people have misspelled it since I started graduate school. I will add to this list as the opportunity arises.
